Little Girl Killed While Riding Bicycle
VANCOUVER, Wash. – A pickup truck ran over and killed a 5-year-old girl while she rode her bicycle near her home.
At 11:30 a.m. Sunday, police and fire crews were sent to the scene at Southeast 188th Avenue and 11th Street. An ambulance crew from AMR was first to arrive, trying to give CPR and other emergency aid to Selena Bailey.
The rescue crews rushed her to Southwest Washington Medical Center, where she died from major head injuries. Police say Bailey was not wearing a bicycle helmet when she was hit.
According to a 9-year-old witness, plus evidence at the scene, Bailey was riding alongside Southeast 11th Street when she suddenly veered into the street, colliding with the front passenger side of a Ford F-350 driven by 31-year-old Kenneth Johns, also of Vancouver. Johns has not been cited in the incident, but it is still under investigation. That investigation is expected to last several more days.
