Frame Protection

Since I’m so madly in love with my Redline 925, I wanted to make sure that when I locked it up at the racks that the paint wouldn’t get chipped. So here’s what I did…

Took my old bar tape, wrapped it around the area where my bike touches the rack and the lock.

Here’s another shot of it.

I plan on wrapping the whole bike in bar tape once I get enough of the stuff. I don’t want to buy it so I just wait until someone at the shop throws them away! Now that’s recycling!

Why use bar tape vs. old tubes? It’s so bulky.

  2. RL Policar May 3, 2007 7:20 am

Because old tubes smell. I don’t like that rubbery stank. Besides the bar tape is great cushing if you have to put your bike on your shoulders when climbing stairs.

Talk about ‘uglyfing’ a nice bike… what happened to the ‘character’ that a bike shows that it’s been used?

  4. RL Policar May 3, 2007 7:53 am

no way man…I want to keep my baby lookin’ good.

  5. Nick May 3, 2007 7:53 am

Yeah, I love the look of a well-damaged bike.

Hey, you should have Randy make you a custom top tube pad.

  7. RL Policar May 3, 2007 7:59 am

funny you say that cuz I was just thinking it!

But he’s going to be busy building a roll up back pack for me. Kinda like the Chrome ones.

Oh..that’s ugly. Not such a sexy bike anymore. Total turn off. I think there’s a company out there that specializes cool looking bike pads.

Uh Oh!! The wife says it’s ugly…and no longer sexy…I give the bar tape 1 week and then it comes off. Don’t forget…Happy Wife, Happy Life.

Ok, I’m no bike genius here, but wouldn’t it be easier (and not nearly as ugly) to just wrap the U-Lock in bar tape…??

  12. RL Policar May 3, 2007 12:18 pm

I wrapped up that part of my bike because its what hits the rack and when I lock my front wheel, the spokes rub against the bike frame.

  13. RL Policar May 3, 2007 2:53 pm

Cornfed, Maybe that’s how Mrs. Cornfed runs things at your house, but with me, I’m the king of my castle!

    It’s my bike…not hers…. :)

  14. Nick May 3, 2007 6:07 pm

Dude… if the spokes rub up against your frame, your definitely doing something wrong. Unless you disconnect your front wheel… that would make sense.

  15. RL Policar May 3, 2007 8:27 pm

I do remove the front wheel and lock it up with the frame and that’s why I incorporated the ugly factor.

  16. Moe May 3, 2007 8:37 pm

    Ugly is as ugly does…

  17. RL Policar May 3, 2007 8:40 pm

Ok let me change the words…instead of “ugly factor” the new term is “Urbanize”

  18. Priscilla May 4, 2007 8:54 am

RL: King of the Castle eh?! Not sure about the “castle” but mabye ur garage! lol.
But anywayz – you can uglify ur bike all u want. Don’t bother me. I can’t wait until I get a fixed. It’s gonna be way hotter than urs. ;D
