Want more MPG?

RL and I had an email discussion about how cycling to work would affect his MPG. I told him that riding his bike will not affect his car’s MPG, it is what it is. After a couple of emails I finally understood what he meant. Theoretically speaking, what if on his drive to work he would use his gas engine for 7 miles and pedaled for 13 miles (sort of like the Flinstones, but using pedals). His car currently averages 27 mph. What would be his new MPG? So I came up with a simple calculator:

Miles Ridden:
Miles Driven:
Car MPG:

His new MPG would be 77.14!!! Now, that’s a hybrid!!!
