JUNE 13, 2007 — TAIPEI, Taiwan (BRAIN)–King Liu, the 73-year-old chairman of Giant, recently completed a 15-day tour of Taiwan. Liu wanted to experience the beauty of his native island in a way that allowed him to truly take pleasure in the places and culture unique to the island.

“Driving is too careless, walking is too slow, and only through cycling can you truly experience the beauty of this island and have this once-in-a-lifetime adventure,? said Liu.

The 576-mile long trip did present some challenges for Liu. An accident while crossing an intersection resulted in scraped knees and fingers. Liu struggled up the Central Mountain Range, climbing over 1,600 feet in 13 miles. He was rewarded at the top with a breath taking view of the coast. He experienced a great deal of encouragement and support from cyclists along the way, some of whom joined him on portions of the ride.

Liu believes that bicycling provides positive influence to society with long-term environmental and health benefits. He hopes that his tour of Taiwan is inspiration for the beginning of a global transformation to encourage more people to experience life on a bicycle.
