As some of you in other parts of the nation may have seen. Southern California has been ravaged by over a dozen wild fires that stretches from Malibu all the way down to San Diego County. In fact in SD alone, they have already evacuated over 250,000 people out of their homes.
This smoke and ash filled are is being blown around by the Santa Ana winds. So for now, I’m not riding my bike any where.

yeah this weather blows…..i just got back from big sur to this firestorm and now i can hardly breathe….i’m holing up until it clears….sucks!
Try to minimize exposure to that smoke, boys and girls…it’s a killer, and will aggravate any respiratory problems you’ve got. Believe me, I’ve breathed in so much wildfire smoke here in Florida that I should be dead (worked outside every day for six weeks during the bad Georgia/Florida wildfires of 1998/1999).
Be safe and find a place to hole up!
Ya, I’m in the 11th story in a building in northern Orange County and looking out the window all I see is an ashy haze in every direction. I want to ride but it’s nasty enough just walking outside and breathing.
Lots of people missing from work today to care for their families and homes. One day of rain in the past year and half sure hasn’t helped.
Looks like no riding to work this week for me here in SD. I live by the coast so there’s no fire danger in my immediate area, but with the poor air quality it’s best to stay indoors.
Sucks because I’m just getting into bicycle commuting and really looking forward to my rides.

I feel ya Evan. I normally ride the bike through out the day when doing errands like groceries, bank, kids/school. But now I’m having to drive to all those things…sucks.
well…it looks like i’m not holing up after all…just got a call to be part of a media pool that’s going up to the fire line! sweet! i’m riding my bike to the firestation here in Long Beach, where we’ll be driven to the scene…
