You know, I really don’t think that brakes of any kind would make a difference in this case. Given the speeds involved, the close formation of the riders, and the slick, varnished surface they’re riding on, crashes like this are inevitable, though this one is exceptionally spectacular. It’s one of the main reasons that racing like this is such a fantastic spectator sport. All those bikes could have the latest disc brakes, and the same thing would have happened - it certainly does fairly frequently in road racing.
