So…did you get anything bike related for Christmas?

December 26th, 2007 by RL Policar · 19 Comments

Now that the birthday of Little Baby Jesus has passed, did any of you get something bike related? I got a nice Craftsman Socket Wrench set from my Secret Santa. Priscilla got a nice Cyclo-Computer from me…what about you? Tell us what you got and perhaps we might get jealous and offer to trade you for that awful Reindeer Tie or package of underwear that some of us may have received.

I got a TransIt rack trunk for those days when I don’t want to carry two big panniers around with me. That won’t be till it’s warmer out and I don’t need to change clothes, but we’ll see.

Bike shop gift certificates, a stainless steel waterbottle (rockin’ that vintage look!) and a pair of barend blinkies for my road bike. Overall, it was an unusually “bike-free” Christmas compared to previous years…

Specialized full-finger gloves and another balaclava for these beautiful-yet-chilly Kansas winter days.

…And enough skrilla to pick up some more bikey goodness if I feel the need to.

I got beer (holiday beer sampler pack)….which is sort of bike related….well…i guess it’s not at all…but it sure was yummy, like a bike would be

I got exactly zip this year, not just no bicycle related swag but nothing entirely…

All I’d asked for was a Banjo Brothers backpack and that didn’t even materialize.

All in all it was a pretty crappy holiday.

I got a Garmin 205 Cycling GPS, and a Timbuk2 Outtawhack pack. I was a good boy this year.

After I showed them to my Dad, he got me a set of the Reelights you reviewed recently (http://www.bikecommuters.com/2007/10/09/reelight-sl120-reviewed/). Thanks for featuring them, I love them, and recommend for all commuters.

Got the Union Basta Generator set, Bagette bag and a mudflap from Velo Orange. I also got sweeeet plaid cycling hats and a net for my front basket. Plus a SS wool shirt.

Very cool — in the next couple months, we might get the opportunity to test a bike that has the Basta dynohub/light set built in. I sure wish Velo Orange was my LBS!!

I got two new helmets and a RoadId! I’m excited to not have duct tape holding the helmet together!! I hope y’all have a wonderful New Year and that holidays have been filled w/ joy.

I’m lucky to have family and friends who support my cycling habit. Apparently they don’t think I dress warmly enough:

    - Novara full-fingered gloves
    - Pearl Izumi “lobster-claw” gloves (I actually got these early after my wife visited the PI outlet in Salt Lake City)
    - Adidas helmet liner
    - Serfas Aileron glasses w/ changeable lenses
    - Coffee (hey, if beer counts…)
    - Some SPD-compatible platforms so that I can ride my bikes without the special shoes

We gave a friend a RoadID for a gift. Can’t recommend those enough — we use them for riding and running.

Still need a couple small things for commuting — drop-bar mirrors and a Planet Bike Super Flash. I’ll get those on my own in the next couple weeks.

Dang DB, i’m a bit jealous….apparently this Road ID is popular….

  • 14 db // Dec 27, 2007 at 12:37 pm

RL, the RoadID is a really good idea.

I know testimony pages are often overblown, but if you read the one at the RoadID site, it gives you an idea of how useful they can be, especially if you’re rendered unable to respond after a bike-auto or pedestrian-auto accident.

DB, I might just use that for road and mountain biking. That’s a great piece of safety gear

Rain and (as I found out Christmas day) snow repellant pants. A must for Seattle.
