Awesome vid that shows the vast and varied world of cargo bikes. I really do think that the cargo/porteur/dutch bike will the be the new fixed gear for 2008.

Gary Fisher is set to introduce the Simple City in late March. The 8 speed version will come with a basket. I’ve emailed GF bikes a few times and I don’t really have any idea if the bike will be an ACTUAL porteur with the proper geometry. It is cool that they’re addressing the market and taking a chance.
I wish I could see the video!
I do agree that poteurs will be the next fixie, the economy is forcing manypeople to think in that direction.
Does any one know where I can get a Koggswell/Simple City style basket?
nice post!

I’ve seen a few porteur racks(Velo Orange, CETMA, etc) but no pre-fab baskets like the Simple City. However, here’s the email I got from Fisher:
Hi Mike,
Thanks for writing. The Simple City is definitely designed with a
commuter/grocery/general city cruisin’ function in mind. The internally
geared 8 speed version comes with a heavy duty front basket painted to
match already installed, and a basket can be added to the 3 speed
version. I believe both of these bikes would have no problem handling 20
lb loads in the front. Dates right now are looking like Mid April,
however if your shop already has one on order for you it may be much
sooner than this as backorders are filled chronologically.
Ride on,

So I guess you’ll be able to buy the Simple City basket separately. I’m sure it won’t be that hard to add to another bike.
Another choice is the Paul Flatbed.
Can’t link directly to the basket but it’s easy to find on the site. It looks a bit shallow to me, though.
