Since my kids are in spring break, I had the chance to ride my bike from my house to work. This meant that my commute was 32 miles round trip. Since the Kona Smoke 2-9 had to be returned, I picked my KHS F20-R to be my weapon of choice for my long commute.

My F20-R in my cubicle
So when I got to the office, I realized that I’ve forgotten my cable to lock up the bike! DUH. Luckily, the F20-R is small enough to be stashed in my cubicle without getting much hassle from my supervisor.

NiteRider MiNewt Duals, real savers!
On the way back home, the last mile features 3 little climbs and truth being, I was somewhat tired. My fatigue led to a lapse on concentration that almost got my ass hit by a car that was turning to the McDonalds parking lot. (By the way, the McGriddle sucks, I don’t care what RL says). I didn’t see the car turning, but I believe that the car was able to see my bright ass flashing NiteRider MiNewt dual lights and was able to stop a foot away from me. Needless to say, my MiNewt duals will become a permanent fixture on my bikes.

I so want a MiNewt light. My Nightowl just doesn’t die and my dark riding is disappearing, so I can’t justify it right now. But when I can…

Jorge: Who’s the current champ?
You want to check out fenix l2d’s for powerful, cheap bike lights. 180 lumens on 2AA batteries
Smudgemo: I also own the NiteRider Solmate. Along with the MiNewt Duals, they are my perfect companions for mountain biking at night.
[...] close call with a car got me thinking. All those ‘what ifs’ raced through my head last night and [...]
Also a fan of the MiNewt, although I “only” have the lowly single version. Not a week goes by when I don’t get a comment from a passing pedestrian, stopped car or fellow cyclist about how bright the light is.
I’ll vouch for the brightness too. I made the bad move of looking into Moe’s MiNewt on a mountain bike ride and thought I’d gone blind.
