Our pal Elizabeth Adamczyk would like to remind everyone that the 2008 Ride of Silence is coming up on May 21st in a city near you!
Here’s a bit about the ride from the Ride of Silence website:
“On May 21, 2008, at 7:00 PM, the Ride of Silence will begin in North America and roll across the globe. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn’t aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves…
…The Ride Of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph and remain silent during the ride. There is no brochure, no sponsors, no registration fees and no t-shirt. The ride, which is held during Bike Safety month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for those who have been killed or injured.”
The Ride of Silence website has a feature to help you find a ride to participate in, organized by state or country. Take a look and see if there’s one nearby. If not, organize one yourself; the site offers plenty of tips on how to create a ride for your city!

I know 2 people that I will be riding in memory of including my late fiance Dana. This is a wonder ride and a great tribute to all of those injured or killed while cycling. My greatest moments are seeing my friends who come out to ride this ride with me. If you are a friend of a friend of someone who has been directly effected please ride with them.
Pease!

Did you take part in your local Ride of Silence? I’m proud to report that we had about 150 cyclists at the Chicago ride, along with some great media coverage. Our ride took us past several Chicago Ghost Bikes dedicated to recent Chicago cycling tragedies.
