I can recommend it. The shaved head helps keep cool in warm weather; throw on a fleece beanie and the beard acts like a natural balaclava in cold weather. I do get "helmet beard", though. I don't seem to have a problem picking up chicks, but my wife does get a little irritated when we are out ;) My beard is almost a requirement for my profession though, it seems that about 75% of geologists wear a beard (its 'cause we are smart free spirited types, just like bike commuters). $2 (due to inflation) I’ve had a full beard for about a decade, and I commute on the bike. Yep. It was the facial hair. The mustache and the beard just didn't do it for me . Some guys can get away with it - it doesn't work for RL though. I don't mind a goatee though...goatees are hot. lol.
