I was able to get out on Recycletron 1000 and fill up two more blue recycling bins this week, and with a little luck, I’ll be able to head back out on Friday for another load. Check it out:

If there’s anyone in the Tampa area who wants to pitch in, I discovered a HUGE amount of recyclables lining the east bank of the Hillsborough River. Check out the map below — basically, high tides and storms washed up a lot of garbage from the pedestrian tunnel at Hillsborough Avenue southward through the City of Tampa’s Rivercrest Park.

There was too much for me to get — I ran out of room long before I was able to make a dent in the pile…bottles and cans galore!
It’s really easy to do this…I urge everyone to try this now and again. You don’t need an Xtracycle; in fact, there’s no special equipment required beyond a bike and something to carry recyclables in… like a trash bag, basket or old panniers. Believe me, it will put a smile on your face to give back to the community in which you live!

Quick tip: get a couple of bunji nets for the tops of the bins and double your capacity.
That’s awesome! I applaud your efforts!
U inspired me to pick up beer cans that line my commute, a relatively clean ditchbank ride through pecan orchards and cotton fields. On my way home from work I get enough to fill up the helmet webbing on my backpack. Bonus: Cha-ching!
Daniel, that’s great news.
I’m thinking about setting all the aluminum cans aside so I can make a few cents for my efforts. There are a LOT of them out there!
