The bike advocacy group I’m involved with in Long Beach, the Long Beach Cyclists, were invited to help organize the “bike pavilion” at this year’s University by the Sea in Long Beach. It’s an event where downtown is closed and turned into a virtual classroom.

We had members teach about how to ride in traffic and the basics of bicycle touring to full classrooms, as well as provide a bike valet service. And with the help of many donations by great sponsors such as Walz Caps, CycleAware, ZeroPerGallon and Adventure Cycling, we were able to raise funds for future community based projects!

One of our members, Josh, broke in his Goldsprints at this event! It was fun to watch and drew quite a crowd! At the end of the day, we found the fastest legs in Long Beach (atleast for the day :) who won a bicycle that was generously given by Jones Bicycles in the LBC.

Former Discovery Channel rider, Tony Cruz, races against his son!
