Product Feature: Action Wipes

Action Wipes recently sent me some body wipes to test out for the sites.

Here’s some specs on the products.

Durable Washable Reusable

full size.
Clean face…
Wash and clean bike, equipment,
yoga mat, car, furniture… Anything!
You’ve changed since your days in the nursery… You’re bigger, play harder,
smell stronger and your skin is not as smooth as your once cute baby behind.
That’s why we created a bigger, thicker wipe specially for you. One that
doesn’t leave you smelling like a baby, or remind you of one when its your time
to play.

Action Wipes are created with a clean, fresh aromatic scent that smells like you
just stepped into a spa. They’re made with all natural ingredients and
therapeutic aromatherapy oils of tea tree and eucalyptus to clean sweaty
pores and remove bacteria.

They have a mild sudsing action that doesn’t require rinsing, so you’re doing
more than just wiping your skin, you’re actually cleaning it! Quick to dry, it
leaves your skin soft – not sticky.

Action Wipes are naturally antiseptic, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory, so
they’re good for your skin. The gentle formula is safe for your face, sensitive
skin, kids, pets and our planet too.

Did we mention they’re extra big? Yup, click here to see a comparison with
other popular wipes. And they’re extra strong too! Unlike other single-use
wipes, Action Wipes can actually withstand several machine washings and
drying, so you can repurpose them for other uses – such as washing your
dishes when you’re out camping, cleaning your equipment, dusting your
furniture… When done, recycle them!

So go ahead, use them before, during and after Triathlons, Yoga, Music
Festivals, Burning Man, Surfing (great to clean dried salt off face!) Golf, Tennis,
Camping, Hiking, Backpacking, Soccer, Rugby, Roller Derby, Horse Back Riding,
Motocross, Racketball, Football, Baseball, Wine Tasting, Travelling… what ever!

Sprayed directly to your face and body, our mist helps hydrate, clean, protect
and restore your skins thermal balance after a hard workout. You’ll smell good

It is a naturally antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal misting product. That
means it fights against many environmental odors and pollutants that we come
into contact on a daily basis. So protect yourself against bacteria, fungus, yeast
growth and backyard mosquitoes, too!

I had the privilege to use the wipes and spray at a recent 24Hour mountain bike event that Moe and I had participated in during the Thanksgiving weekend. After riding about 33+ miles and grilling food as well as not showering, my body started getting funky. Next best thing to a shower would be using the Action Wipes.

What I liked about these wipes, opposed to baby wipes was the scent. Action Wipes smelled clean and fresh. Plus it didn’t leave me feeling sticky like other wipes do. I used the wipes all over my body, from my face, arms, legs, and my boy parts. The aroma of the wipes are not over powering, in fact, after I had used up the wipes, I was left with a small hint of eucalyptus on my skin. I literally felt like I just showered.

Though Action Wipes say that after I used the wipes on my body, I could use it to clean my bike. But after applying the wipes all over my junk…I decided to pass on cleaning my bike with it. But I do see what they say, these things are durable, large and can be “repurposed” if needed.

As far as the spray goes, I used it to refresh my pits, my face, head and all over my body. The cool mist really helps to keep you smelling and feeling clean.

Price: Wipes start as cheap as $3.95 for 5 wipes and $9.95 for 15 wipes.
Spray come in a 2oz bottle for $7.25 or a 5oz for $14.95.

I really enjoy the Bike Commuters blog. I benefit from reading about other commuters, about your exciting rebuild/refurbish flips, and some of the bike gear you feature.

Please keep in mind that much of your readership is commuting by bicycle because we’re trying to make our world a better place.

Some of this crap you’re reviewing is just that: more crap. More packaging, more consumption, more product that is manufactured with more waste and more externalized costs than true benefits. I see that the body wipes are “durable and reusable”. So is my 15-year old L.L. Bean flannel with the holes in the elbows. Add witch hazel solution and VIOLA!

It must be fun getting this crap sent to you. I ask that you consider what you’re pushing via the Bike Commuters blog.

  2. Moe

John, thank you for your comment. If we feel that some products are crap, we will say so. If we feel that some products will benefit commuters, we will say so as well. The Action wipes may not be for you, but someone else may find them useful. It is up to the reader to make the decision to purchase them or not. If you have tried the Action wipes and would like to offer a counterpoint, we will welcome it.

As a bike blogger myself who wants product and money, I’m a little more forgiving of in-blog product promotion than you are, John.

That said, I’d really like to see Bike Commuters improve in two areas.

The first is in presentation. The above quoted text is ugly and hard to read. Sentences break oddly (thanks to cut-n-paste) and flow suffers. I can’t bring myself to read through that mess. (While text presentation is weak, Bike Commuters always nails the photography.)

My second problem is that Bike Commuters feels the need to reproduce the entire spec list or marketing materials for the product. Give us a link to the specs or the company’s web site. I’ll read that crap there. All I want to read on Bike Commuters is what the reviewer has to say about the product (good or bad). Only after have I read the review do I care about the product details.

As for the wipes at hand, I’m cheap. For a generous tip, my favorite waitress at my favorite BBQ restaurant will give me a couple dozen individually-wrapped, 8-inch by 12-inch wipes.

They have no smell other than faintly like rubbing alcohol. The wipes are tougher than baby wipes and less likely to tear. The packages are about an inch and a half wide and six inches long so they fit well in a pocket. I like that they are individually wrapped since they don’t dry out before I get to use them.

I’ll take into consideration posting a shorter spec list and a link.

One thing we’ve learned in the years we’ve been blogging, you can’t please everyone. There are some that appreciate certain products and some that don’t. But just because some don’t like a product being featured, it doesn’t necessarily mean its “crap.”

Thanks for your comments guys, we really appreciate it.

  5. Moe

Matt, thanks for your opinion, we will be revamping BikeCommuters really soon and we will take the easiness of reading into consideration.

  6. Ghost Rider

I try to avoid the entire spec sheet and marketing blurb of the products we review, for the most part, but sometimes using the pre-prepared stuff from a company’s website is a quick ‘n dirty way to get a lot of basic info across.

The above, of course, is a bit much.

I too have had the chance to use Action Wipes ( and while not a biker or a commuter by bike, I do weight lift and have to balance it with a career and motherhood. These wipes allow me to fit a GREAT workout into a tiny portion of my day when I find the moment and still be able to go to the next part of my day feeling freshly showered and free of smell. I can say that they are truly worth every penny they sell for! I think that often times readers feel they are being pushed a product that is somehow benefiting the blogger or author, however sometimes it is merely a useful tip passed along. I am not a regular reader of this site, however I do search for good tips as far as health, fitness, and cost cutting are concerned. This is a great item for a great price. As far as packaging is concerned, it is very little as compared to other products out there. ACTION WIPES…check them out, they are WONDERFUL!
