In this video you’ll see Lee Gomez of Pcych. We met him while mountain biking but he explained to us that he has a commuter version of the Pcych.

I’m waiting on the commuter version of this bag. Lee said he would get on in our hands soon. Once we start testing it, we’ll make sure we update you on it.

Interesting. I would be worried about knee-strike while pedaling, but I see that it tapers inward toward the seat tube…

It wasn’t on the video, but I did ask him about that issue especially if you are out of the saddle trying to hammer it. He said the design of the bag, like you saw, being tapered allows enough leg clearance.

I’m hoping that we get the commuter version soon so we can do a full review of it.

The MTB version seems like a good idea. Putting the bag in the frame will be more stable than a large seatbag or panniers, and getting the hydration bladder off the rider is going to be more comfortable.

I can’t see the commmuter version being a viable option for commuters who ride typical “commuter” bikes. I think most people will opt for a rack and panniers. The hydration bladder is overkill for most commuters. Who needs 50 oz. of liquid for their ride to work? However, if someone is riding a road race bike with no rack bosses, this may be a nice way to carry stuff. And it will be more comfortable than carrying a laptop in a messenger bag.

There are plenty of people who ride a good distance to work in rather hot weather who would really appreciate having the water capacity. Also the fact that it’s an all inclusive completely removable product means that unlike a rack and panniers nothing is left on the bike to be swiped. This is not an entirely new concept as companies like
Epic Design have been making similar bags to order for years.

I ride 22 miles each way to work in FLORIDA and make it with two 20 oz. bottles. Then I refill @ work with water and ice for the ride home. Seems with a bladder you’re having to refill it for the ride home also, unless you want to dring water that’s been sitting all day. Refilling the bladder is a PITA compared to a couple of bottles(that I can fill and refrigerate all day).

It’s a fine idea. But I really think it’s more viable as an MTB product. The cargo capacity is not large enough for a lot of commuters, for one. I have three commuter bikes, two with panniers and one with a Carradice Barley saddlebag. The panniers hold a lot, and the saddlebag holds less. But the saddlebag can expande to hold a LOT of cargo, should I need to pick up some items on the way home. The Psych bag doesn’t appear to be very flexible in that regard.

It seems like a great and simple way to “commuterize” a bike which isn’t very utilitarian. Like, as I wrote, a race bike. And it’s a godsend for MTB’ers. 100 oz of hydration? Yes, please.

I’m intrigued by the design (and can’t wait for the review of the commuter version), but I don’t think it’s for me. My bikes cables are routed along the top of the top tube. The weight of the bag looks like it might interfere with those cables.

Hi ,It look’s very interesting,not to small or to big for Day Trips to the Countryside or Mountains. It seems to be very Aerodynamic and will not Block the Wind unlike Panniers. I dont think the Commuter version would work as it seems to be overkill and too big.

I like to go off Touring in the Countryside on my Trek 7.3fx it is not MTB and something like this that is not to big and yet holds a good bit of stuff seems Ideal instead of a Pannier and you can also take it off very easy.

I would like to see an Independent Evaluation before I would consider buying one however to get an idea of what the practical use is. Will they be selling them in Europe. Dublin Ireland.

I guess this is a general comment. Maybe I’m doing it wrong, but is cyclocommuting supposed to be an activity for the wealthy? Nearly every product put up here for review seems rather expensive, or aimed at purists/elitists.

$230 backpacks. $1k grocery-getter bikes “And-up” category knickers, etc. I understand that cyclists are choosy about their equipment, but commuting is supposed to be a relatively cheap, simple thing–or at least that as much as a life-style expression.

@Jamey,

one pays for quality. Yes, commuting can be VERY inexpensive using nothing more than an old beater bike and a cheap backpack from high school, and this is fine for many people. But for others, that just won’t do. You’re right — lots of cyclists are very choosy about their equipment, and sometimes that equipment comes with a steep price tag.

The cycling industry generates some pretty pricey stuff with lots of bells and whistles…and while a lot of it makes commuting more secure, more safe and more maintenance-free, not a bit of it is required to ride a bike to work.

One other thing: we don’t often get to pick and choose what companies send us to review — they may want a certain product showcased or may make a range of rather expensive items and we have to stay within those ranges. By reviewing such products, though, our readers get a chance to see the strengths and weaknesses of a lot of gear on the market and may even spur them to find homebrew solutions that are cheaper. I know I’ve found homemade solutions to some of this expensive stuff over the years!

Commuting is suppose to be cheap and alternate form of transportation. I commute because I hate driving in the city, I can’t find parking easily and when I do it’s expensive. Finally, I fee guilty when I take a car or bus to work. I commute 2 miles and back. I always tell myself that if I can’t ride 2 miles to work and 2 miles back then I’m out of shape. Some days I don’t want to ride. But once I get on the bike I love and the guilt goes away.

The pricing I think comes from the fact the owner is touting this thing as a new and unique product in the market. No competition. Also, because of the complexity and the amount of material used they justify the price.

Neat product though.

Don’t know how it would be able to carry my commuting stuff of: dress shirt, pants, underwear shoes, socks, toiletries, towel and my lunch and snacks.
