Interbike 2011: Footbike USA goes Electric!

One of our site sponsors, Footbike USA decided to come out with an E-Footbike. Jeff Oakie of Footbike USA showed me how it worked, basically all you do is push, hit about 2mph an hour, and hit the accelerator and you’re zooming along! It’s quite fun to be honest with you.

Frankly, I just don’t get it. Scooters never appealed to me in the first place and slapping a motor on it just turns it into a quasi-motorcycle. YMMV

    Raiyn,

We are actually concerned that we got a comment on this review! The fact is that footbikes (not your razor scooter) were developed for the fitness industry as a non-impact running machine. It really has no business at a bike show. The addition of the electric motor came about from a request to build a ‘poormans segway’—–which is what you see here.

In this particular prototype, the customer is an x-cyclist baby boomer that cannot sit down on a saddle, and doesn’t want to go as fast as a motorcycle. Suffice to say that they got what then wanted, and you will get want you want too because we actually haven’t put this ‘quasi-motorcycle scooter on the market…………..yet!

    @ Raiyn –

How is an electric bicycle not also a quasi-motorcycle?

    Different strokes…

Different strokes? Is that two strokes or four? 😉

I want one. Let me know the details. Great job. How fast while electric ? How long on the battery?
