  • I ain’t goin’ to lie

    Apr 25th 2007

    By: RL Policar

But I love riding my fixie. Ok ok…I ain’t goin’ to lie again, I’m no Nick James nor some NYC messenger that can ride without brakes. But I love my fixie!
    redline 925

People ask me all the time why I like this bike so much. But its hard to really describe the feel of riding a fixie. But I’ll try to sum it up in a few short points and hopefully you can understand my affinity for it.

    1. Simple.
    2. You feel at one with the bike.
    3. Your mind will be in a zen like state when riding a fixie.
    4. The bike is uber light compared to geared bikes.
    5. Relatively cheaper than most geared bikes. You can find some as cheap as $299.
    6. Your cool status goes up when you ride a fixie.
    7. Build great legs out of it.
    8. Great workout.
    9. You can wear cool knickers and messenger bags to complete the fixie look.
    10.It’s euphoric.

  • Serenity Now….

    Apr 25th 2007

Serenity Now melts the anger away!

Last night Priscilla and I were watching Seinfeld and it was the episode about “Serenity Now.” If haven’t seen it, basically everyone says this term when they are getting frustrated or mad. But the bad part is they all snapped by the end of the show because all it does is bottle up your anger.

Ok back to Serenity Now…as I drove in to work today….yes I drove in. I’ve only been here a week so I haven’t been able to guage if and when I could ride my bike to work. Anyhow, I’m sitting there in traffic, listening to talk radio and getting frustrated on the stop and go mess that I’m in on the 57 and 5 freeway.

    Then I yell, SERENITY NOW!!!!!!!!!

    Didn’t work! I’m still mad!

I then yell another term from the show, “HOOCHIE MAMA!!!!!!!!!”

Still not working….I’m about to snap on the freeway! So I breathe slowly and try to envision myself riding my fixie or mountain bike….ahhhhh….now that’s relief! I have a ride scheduled tomorrow with some guys on the trails and I can’t wait to blow of some steam and have a good time.

I’ve learned this morning that Serenity Now and Hoochie Mama doesn’t work….man it does leave you more mad than anything. But what has worked is me dreaming about the wind brushing my long flowing hair and the sun kissing my skin….ah….now that’s what I’m talking about!

But you know what…its fun to say HOOCHIE MAMA!!!!!! Go on…say it to your coworker. But don’t come crying to us if you get stung by a sexual harrasment suit. :)

  • The Best Dressed Bike Commuters

    Apr 23rd 2007

I’m going to start handing out awards for this. But I’ve got a few people on my list of the best dressers for bike commuters.

So here they are in no specific order….

Nick James, you can also check out his Ninja Look HERE.
    Nick James

and this guy….dunno who he is, but I think he’s the only one that can make that pink look cool.

Bike Fox because he can coordinate outfit with his bike and make it look sooooooo sexy.

    Priscilla…well duh!

And this guy too…he dresses pretty nice for a Messican Bike Commuter.

    As for me
…I wouldn’t make it on this list because I don’t like to wear clothes when I ride….

  • Landis follow-up tests also positive

    Apr 23rd 2007

    By: RL Policar

This news is for the Landis Fans…sorry but its bad news.:

PARIS (AP) – Follow-up tests on backup urine samples by Tour de France champion Floyd Landis found traces of synthetic testosterone, the French sports newspaper L’Equipe reported Monday.

The tests on seven “B” samples clearly showed traces of the banned substance, the paper said on its Web site. Landis had insisted the follow-up tests weren’t necessary because the primary “A” samples tested negative for banned substances during the Tour.
The cyclist and his lawyers would not confirm the newspaper report Monday, saying they had not been given access to the complete test results.

Still, Landis lashed out at the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, which called for the tests, accusing the agency or the French lab of leaking the most recent results and saying there had been a “deliberate falsification of results” in his case.

“Failures like this in any other industry would be construed as criminal negligence,” Landis said during a teleconference Monday.

The tests were done at France’s national anti-doping laboratory of Chatenay-Malabry outside Paris. The lab used a technique that can distinguish synthetic from natural forms of testosterone, a male sex hormone. The lab is the same one that revealed Landis’ positive test for elevated testosterone to epitestosterone levels after he won the 17th stage of last year’s Tour.

Pierre Bordry, president of the French anti-doping agency, told The Associated Press the tests were concluded this weekend but he didn’t know the result because they were sent directly to the USADA.

USADA general counsel Travis Tygart said agency rules prevent him from commenting on an active case.

The 31-year-old cyclist has an arbitration hearing May 14 in California, where he is expected to question the practices of the French lab. Landis wanted the follow-up tests on the backup samples conducted at the UCLA lab that handles much of USADA’s testing, but the machine it uses is under repair.

The Landis camp also protested the lab not allowing its own expert, Paul Scott, from entering the lab Sunday to witness the testing.

Bordry confirmed Scott had been kept out, but said that stemmed from a prior agreement stipulating that Landis’ expert would attend the test with two USADA experts.

Bordry said Scott was excluded Sunday because USADA experts didn’t show up, and that account was confirmed by Landis’ attorney, Maurice Suh.

When experts from both camps were allowed in earlier in the week, Suh said, there was not equal access.

“They had free rein while our experts did not,” Suh said. “Observation was one-sided and the one-sidedness was directed by USADA’s … lawyer.”

If doping accusations against Landis are upheld, he faces a two-year ban from competition. He also would be the first rider in the 104-year history of the Tour to be stripped of the title. He already has agreed not to compete in this year’s event while the case is pending.

  • Fezzari Speedster as a Fixed Gear?

    fezzari speedster

Check out the Fezzari Speedster. Look at this frame…don’t you think it would make a great fixie!

I like the flat bar feel and comfort. Hey my Redline has bull horns because I never liked the drop road bars or even the moustache bars that came with it. But then again, I have a short torso so I need things a bit different as far as geometry than most riders.
