Bike Your Drive!

Cycling Buddy

Yeah, sometimes it can be lonely being a bike commuter, its not like riding on a peloton or a club ride. So I usually ride with my ‘biking buddies’

Biking Buddy

My newest ‘buddy’ is Charlie Brown. Why? Because being a bike commuter, sometimes I do feel like we are portrayed like outcasts, weird, and a little dorky. However, Charlie Brown never gives up and is persistent and determined, sort of like Bike Commuters!

Win some Sweetskinz Nightwing Tires

Our new friend Linda who won the Sweetskinz Nightwings at the Urban Commuter Expo emailed and told me that the tires will not fit her bike. So she’s willing to give them away as a raffle on the site. So if you were at the expo this passed weekend, shoot me an email if you want to win these tires!

Email me HERE. We’ll announce the winner this Friday.

Remember you have to be a local entry because you will need to pick up the tires in South Pasadena.

Sweetskinz Scorch Raffle

At the Urban Bike Commuter Expo we told people that we were giving away the Sweetskinz Scorch 26″ tires today. We had quite a bit of people that entered their names in the drawing and I’m happy to announce our winner.

Congrats to Ting and we’ll be contacting you to make arrangements so you can pick up the tires.

RL’s Riding Tip

If you ride a fixie, make sure you bring a small adjustable wrench in your bag. This wrench will come in handy when you need to remove your wheels to fix a flat or to throw at a passing car. JK! Don’t throw anything at anyone…

NuVinci Hub Preview

NuVinci Hub
As RL mentioned, the awesome people from Seattle Bike Supply sent us a Nuvinci hub to test. We chose the B27-R aka the M.U.T.T as our test steed. Reason being is that the B27-R is already set up as a single speed bike and the 26″ wheel fit perfectly.

NuVinci Hub

I did run into some hurdles, first of all, my mustache bars had to go. The diameter of the ‘Cruise Controller’ was too small to fit the bars.

NuVinci Hub

The other issue that I have is that the chain tensioner will not fit due to the hub’s flange. Shouldn’t be a big deal,
I just need to install a ‘half-link’ on the chain.

NuVinci Hub

I need to finish installing the rear pulley housing, the most difficult part in my opinion, but I’m hoping to be done by the weekend and ready to hit the streets on Tuesday. We test rode the hub at Sea Otter, but this will be a better test as I ride my bike to work, and to the beach. (Can’t wait to see the faces of the snobby roadies on the river trail as I blast down on my MUTT)
